Chula Vista is a scenic coastal city whose name means “beautiful view” in Spanish. The second-largest city in San Diego County and located halfway between San Diego and Tijuana, Chula Vista has a stunning landscape of sandy beaches and canyons framed by rolling mountain foothills and the San Diego Bay. West Chula Vista is the oldest portion of the city, while East Chula Vista consists of luxurious planned communities developed from the 1980s onward. Together, these areas offer a diverse real estate mix with condominiums and single-family homes in a wide variety of styles.

Residents enjoy a huge range of activities and amenities, from downtown shopping and dining to recreation in the mountains and on the Bay.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Chula Vista Center is the city’s largest shopping mall, featuring 78 tenants anchored by Burlington Coat Factory, JCPenney, and Macy’s. Other retailers include fashion brands such as Aeropostale, Charlotte Russe, Express, Vans, and Victoria’s Secret. Dining options here include microbrews and deep-dish pizzas at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, beer and wings at Buffalo Wild Wings, Italian staples at Olive Garden, and seafood at Red Lobster. Otay Ranch Town Center is an open-air shopping mall with over 100 businesses anchored by Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Macy’s, and an AMC movie theater. Restaurants at Otay Town Center include Sushiya for sushi and other Japanese dishes, Chili’s for hearty Southwestern fare, and Karina’s Mexican Seafood for specialties such as shrimp and tuna ceviches, campechanas, and tostadas. Third Avenue Village is the vibrant commercial center of Chula Vista’s historic downtown district. Here, you’ll find an eclectic array of restaurants, retailers, and services. San Diego farm-to-table brunch favorite Farmer’s Table opened its largest location on F Street in Downtown Chula Vista in 2020. Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing Co. is a trendy downtown tap house with a great selection of microbrews. The historic 1940s Vogue Theater is a longtime downtown landmark that has been reimagined as a state-of-the-art concert venue with an outdoor beer garden and food trucks. You can also enjoy theatrical productions at OnStage Playhouse and major concerts from big-name acts at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre.

Things to Do

Chula Vista offers endless outdoor recreation opportunities along the scenic coastline and in the surrounding mountains. Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge is a preserved natural area on the San Diego Bay featuring the Living Coast Discovery Center, and numerous trails connecting many bird watching locations. CYM Chula Vista is a yacht marina on the Bay with first-class amenities. Head to SeaWorld’s Aquatica water park for thrilling rides, slides, aquariums, and interactive experiences with dolphins, penguins, and other marine animals. Chula Vista also has four golf courses, including the award-winning public Chula Vista Golf Course. Tours are available at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, a sprawling sports complex where Olympic athletes hone their skills. Chula Vista’s signature Lemon Festival takes place each August with three stages of live entertainment, as well as lots of vendors selling lemon drinks and snacks in Third Avenue Village.
